The 10 best ways to get under the skin of Los Angeles

This way, you don’t give fungus gnats the right conditions to lay eggs. Although you may see them coming out of sink drains, drain flies don’t enter the home through the drainage or sewage system. Instead, drain flies get into your house through open windows and doors. You can also make a vinegar trap to kill fruit flies, drain flies, and gnats. To do this, pour one cup of apple cider vinegar into a small bowl and add a small amount of liquid dish soap. Next, put plastic wrap over the jar and seal it with a rubber band.

Dim the lights

Like most bugs that fly into the house, preventing wasps from entering your home is the best advice. If you have already sealed cracks and crevices to prevent other flying pests from getting indoors, you will rarely have wasps inside. On the other hand, fruit flies are brown with a rounded shape, somewhat like tiny houseflies. Fungus gnats are commonly found in potting soil, damp places, or other sources of organic composition. Even though they are a nuisance and get in your face, fungus gnats don’t bite or sting.

DIY a Vinegar Trap.

Hang a non-toxic disposable fly trap filled with water outdoors near your windows or doors to augment the spray solution. Flies are attracted to damp, warm, and dark places with decomposing material—from garbage, to ripe fruit, to feces—for nesting and laying eggs. While natural methods are a suitable solution for how to get flies out of the house on the odd occasion, if you have an infestation it might be time to call in professional pest control. Uncovered or improperly sealed garbage cans can become breeding grounds for flies," Jordan warns. "For starters, you should avoid attracting them in the first place," Kameliya Ilieva, pest control specialist for Fantastic Services tells woman&home.

How to Get Rid of House Flies (and Keep Them Far Away)

Many natural and other fly repellents can be used outside to keep flies away from your house. You can try planting herbs and flowers such as basil or marigolds around the house, or even plant a few Venus flytraps. In addition to natural ways to get rid of houseflies, you can use insecticides and traps to kill or remove the flies. They lay their eggs on animal feces, garbage, and in rotting organic material. Camphor is another natural way to get rid of flies and can be bought online or from any homeopathic store. It has a very strong smell that, you guessed it, flies absolutely hate.

At night, the Strip is illuminated in neon lights, making it an easy place to club-hop with sidewalks full of party-goers, and without driving around. Knott's Berry Farm started out as a way to entertain folks (with Old West-themed attractions) who were standing in line for Cordelia Knott's fried chicken dinners. The Knott's experience has a bit of a split personality, with old-fashioned spots, like the Bottle House, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the wildest thrill rides on the West Coast.

Step 3: Clean the Area

Houseflies are a nuisance pest because of the buzzing sounds they make. Also, their erratic flying behavior and excellent vision make them difficult to swat. A serious reason to get rid of houseflies is that they are disease carriers, and they feed on rotten meat and decaying organic matter.

If you see one house fly in your home, well, maybe it just happened to accidentally slip through an open door or a hole in a window screen. Get rid of that house fly but keep an eye out for more because you don’t know if the one you swatted just laid eggs. They carry harmful pathogens on their feet from their dirty feeding and breeding grounds. Aside from flies being an annoyance, these illnesses are why you should get rid of houseflies as soon as you spot them.

I found the trap caught not only houseflies but tiny flying creatures and the occasional mosquito, too. It emits a mild blue light which I find soothing, and it’s reminiscent of a night light when used at night. You need to take more steps to keep the flies out once they get into your house.

How to Get Rid of Gnats in Your House

Here's what crane flies actually eat and the surprising benefits they can still bring to your garden, as well as some unexpected challenges they present. Along with vinegar, fruit flies like the smell of fruity beer and wine. Leave out an almost-empty open bottle of stale beer or old wine — the skinny neck will keep the flies trapped. Invest in an insecticidal spray that's safe for indoor use, like the Zevo Fly, Gnat & Fruit Fly Flying Insect Spray (which also happens to be a GH Seal holder).

House flies are typically charcoal gray and about ¼ inch long, and females are usually larger than males. The bodies of all house flies have stripes, they’re covered in short hair, and flanked by a pair of papery thin wings. House flies do not have teeth or stingers that will physically harm you.

In the larger natural scheme, flies serve an essential function in breaking down carrion and organic material, but we should never forget that this behavior can also spread a variety of diseases. Plug-in traps, like the Zevo Flying Insect Trap, can be extremely effective. Bug zappers typically attract flying insects with a UV light, then trap and collect the small bugs. Most modern zappers are safe for indoor use, so you can plug one in adjacent to your gnat problem.

Discover how to get rid of flies in the house easily and naturally, so that you can let the cool air in to beat the heatwave but keep unwanted pests out. When you have a large housefly infestation, insecticides can be effective because they work quickly. However, they’re not effective in the long term, because flies have short life cycles and will develop resistance. Vinegar attracts flies so it is a great way of luring them in and away from the rest of the house. To make a vinegar trap all you need is a some apple cider vinegar or malt vinegar, a glass, a plastic bag and a rubber band. There are many effective ways to get rid of flies in the house using home remedies.

Once inside, these flies spread to other foods in your home and multiply very quickly. A fly could be sitting on the person or pet, or be hiding in luggage, a backpack, a handbag, or in school bags. Below I’ve put together a list of the top 8 ways that flies get into houses. Learn more about why many flies are suddenly in your home and the steps you can take to prevent a sudden influx of flies.

Hollywood is actually more of a state of mind than a real place. That said, in Los Angeles, much of the hype centers around Hollywood Boulevard and its intersection with Highland Boulevard. Along the boulevard, you'll find the Walk of Fame, a series of stars embedded in the sidewalk, celebrating hundreds of personal achievements in film, television, and music. Celebrity impersonators prowl the sidewalks, posing for photos with passersby (for a small fee).

The trim detail transforms it from an appliance to a work of art. The 71-inch range gives us the space we need when we’re entertaining. Best of all, La Cornue worked with us to customize the color—a peaceful shade of blue I was able to create in my studio. I recently spoke with Wilson to learn how she become an interior designer, what it's like to have such a defined style and so much more. But with this house, we have a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to build our mudroom from the (muddy) ground up. Because our new mudroom connects to our downstairs addition, we have architectural and design flexibility.

The New Book From the Queen of "Grandmillennial" Style Puts It All Into Perspective

A swinging door connects it to the dining room and an open door connects it to the main kitchen, so our hidden kitchen gets a lot of visibility. My dad has always loved and collected antiques, so living in what I call a “collected home” feels comforting and familiar. I love the calming effects of blue, a color that is quintessentially “me.” While this home still features plenty of blue, I’ve also been drawn to shades of green. Recently we visited the Palace of Versailles, which incorporates shades of greens that add sophistication and warmth.

This week, we spoke with Caitlin Wilson, the interiors and textile designer behind the eponymous Instagram account and studio Caitlin Wilson Design. I suppose creativity runs in the family, because we all embrace a good project. From watercolors and Play Doh to school projects and baking supplies, we need a lot of storage for those kitchen essentials that are fun and functional, but definitely not pretty.

With this house, I’ve tried to treat myself as the client for the first time. And in our kitchen, our home’s heart, the answers to these two questions couldn’t be more important. We start and end each day in our kitchen; it’s where we gather for creative projects, enjoy meals, and entertain our friends and loved ones. Growing up on the French Riviera, Margaux gets her inspiration from a blend of the Mediterranean chill lifestyle and the sophistication of Parisian interiors. Her best challenge is understanding her client’s needs to deliver the space where they will relax and enjoy their loved ones.

From new colors to European-inspired lights, here's what designer Caitlin Wilson can't wait to deploy in her renovated home. We go back to what is traditionally beautiful, what's classical, what's lovely, and what really feels warm, and inviting. There's also the instructional side of it, where I offer a lot of very helpful, but simple, straightforward tools and tips and ideas for how to put things together and all the pretty elements of a home. And it's a lot of just pretty photography, and pretty everything, because obviously, the name is Return To Pretty. I think people are afraid to commit to something because it may be overwhelming for them.

Summer is without question one of the top interior designers in LA. From the finest showrooms across the globe to the bespoke gems of local artisans, interior designer Kishani Perera relies on a multitude of resources to create beautiful spaces.

While I wouldn’t want to live in a house like that, I wouldn’t mind some of the details, which have a very decadent, feminine feel. I’m hoping to bring that in through some of the lights I’ve chosen for our home, especially in the foyer. We’re used to seeing pictures of colorful walls paired with a crisp, white trim. Especially in kids’ rooms, I think it can be really fun to turn that notion on its head by painting the trim a color that ties in with the surrounding wallpaper. It’s a nice complement—the trim enhances the wallpaper, and vice versa.

I have also partnered with a lot of bigger name brands this year as I embarked on my house renovation, so they were really fun to work with. It’s been fun to dip my feet back into more of the influencer role from a design point of view. I don’t share too much; I don’t really get on camera and talk face to face all the time.

Architectural details include a beautiful arch window, pilasters with fluting detail, and intricate plaster molding. On a recent trip to the iconic Ritz in Paris, I was immediately inspired. Every detail at the Ritz is ornate—it’s so over the top, in a good way!

I continue to design but I also really liked the finishing touches. “There used to be a line about Los Angeles that everyone was either a screenwriter or an actor,” says Scotti Sitz, owner of L.A. “I think in some respects, you could start to make the case that everyone here is now an interior designer.” Indeed, the city’s design scene has boomed, with new shops and showrooms sprouting up every month. What’s most exciting about this design renaissance, though, is the range of visions and styles represented around the city—due in part, perhaps, to the constant flow of new residents from around the country and world. Design scene is equally embracing of the primitive and the cutting-edge, the refined with the unrefined,” says Adam Blackman of Blackman Cruz, on Highland Avenue. Charles & Co is an independent interior design business with offices in New York and LA.

It was like, “Oh, my gosh, I can create a business online, and I can write whatever I want on it.” That set me on this path where we can do anything we put our minds to, which sounds so cliché, but it’s true. Led by Kara Smith, KES Studio is a boutique atelier that offers innovative and smart interior design and lifestyle services for design-forward residential clients and one-of-a-kind hospitality environments. Whether it’s from travel, art, and even her clients, Kara is constantly drawing inspiration to create cutting-edge designs. With his broad range of eclectic styles and sophisticated comfort, Martyn Lawrence Bullard is not only one of the top interior designers in LA but also one of the world’s most renowned interior designers.

They were also very supportive and wanted the product that I was producing. I got married pretty young, so I was on a budget and painting chevrons on walls and doing lots of apartment-friendly types of things. I could get them to the people in Hong Kong, but there actually wasn’t a reliable mail system in Dubai in 2010.

Visit Bluey's House at CAMP Los Angeles and Meet the Heelers

So much so that episodes like “The Sign” are quickly on their way to becoming permanently ingrained in television history. It’s no secret that the show has one of the biggest fan followings of any animated series, but the number of celebrities who call themselves Bluey fans is absolutely remarkable. Along with big names like Natalie Portman, The Jonas Brothers, and Broadway’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, Deadpool himself is even a member of the cute cartoon cult. The main reason is because I feel like I can relate to the characters and the stories they tell. The most important episode for me is ‘Yoga Ball’ when Bingo has to find her ‘big girl bark’.

YELLOWSTONE PLAYING CARDS

My favourite Bluey character is Bandit because he is the kind of father I wanna be. He finds a way to play with his kids even when he has to do something like go to the supermarket or go to the dump. Some day in the near future I would like to go and live in Australia and the Heeler house is just like the house I would like to live in.

The Century City location is one of nine Camp stores around the country, the first of which opened in 2018. From Magic Asparagus to Keepy Uppy to Grannies, this is a chance to play all your favorite Bluey games in their meticulously recreated charming Queenslander home. Brace yourself for a weekend of family games and make-believe, because one family living in Australia will be able to book the exclusive two-night stay at the Heeler’s home.

The front area of the Camp store is the retail area, called the "canteen," which features merchandise and play areas as well as the "Schmutz Schtation" — a DIY slime bar.

Bluey is an animated TV series that follows the adventures of Bluey - a lovable, inexhaustible six-year-old Blue Heeler dog - who lives with her Mum (Chilli), Dad (Bandit) and little sister Bingo. Today a new listing went up on Airbnb for a real, life-size version of Bluey's house. What do Eva Mendes, Natalie Portman and Lin-Manuel Miranda all have in common? The three stars are Bluey superfans (and guest voices) — and come this November, Hollywood’s favorite Emmy-winning Blue Heeler and her family are inviting fans to their home via a pop-up experience at Camp in Los Angeles. This “one-of-a-kind” trip to Bluey’s house is credited to a collaboration between Airbnb and BBC Studios, with a statement explaining that the “house has been entirely customised to bring the cartoon experience to life”. Our newsletter hand-delivers the best bits to your inbox.

Latest News from Vulture

CAMP and BBC Studios will introduce an exclusive co-branded Bluey collection of youth and adult merchandise for the whole family. The collection will be available in Los Angeles, on camp.com, and in our other CAMP stores nationwide. Additionally, families not in the Los Angeles area can get in on the fun by participating in one of CAMP's meet-and-greets with Bluey and Bingo at select CAMP locations, including Dallas, Atlanta, Boston, and Chicago. Tickets for the meet-and-greets are available today and can be purchased here. Timed entry tickets are available today at camp.com/bluey. And then, in the episode’s final minute, the show pulls one of its classic time-jump stunts to give viewers a peek at the characters’ future, and this might be the most consequential one the show has ever had.

Peek behind the magic doors

We focus on bringing you all things fun so you can plan your theme park vacation, enjoy Disney at home, and more. Both of my kids had different experiences, depending on which characters were near them, which was really cool. I started searching images of the Heelers room, watching Bluey episodes. First, I made the three walls, then I made the doors, then the stairs, the balcony and so on. I can move every single model, every single plant, every single book. The event opens to the public on Monday, Nov. 6 and is in LA through Feb. 19.

Limited tickets are available today, online at camp.com/bluey or in person at CAMP, and families are encouraged to plan ahead. Kids will soon have the opportunity to come laugh, play, and pretend with Bluey and her family at CAMP’s newest and most heartwarming immersive adventure. Bluey is an inexhaustible Blue Heeler dog who loves to play and turns everyday family life into extraordinary adventures, developing her imagination as well as her mental, physical, and emotional resilience. The show is loved by all ages for its heart, humor, and relatable family moments. Available on Disney+, Disney Junior, and Disney Channel, Bluey is created by Joe Brumm and produced by the Emmy® Award-winning Ludo Studio for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and BBC Studios Kids & Family.

Timed entry tickets, which are $39 each, are available at camp.com/bluey. Throughout the adventure, kids are meant to feel like they are playing the “most amazing Hide-and-Seek ever,” during which they’re meant to search for Bluey and her sister, Bingo, who have left traces of themselves throughout the house. "Our beautiful country is a character in the show just as much as any of the dogs, so to have brought it into the living rooms of the whole world, encouraging people to come and visit is something I'll always be proud of," he said in a statement.

Please do not add speculation or fan theories to this page. If you would like to avoid spoilers, you may exit the page, else caution is advised. “We write to the parents and then we play to the kids,” Larsen said. The experience, like the show, is designed to be fun for everyone.

The space is staffed with “CAMP Counselors” who lead group activities (all of which are inspired by Bluey’s own beloved pastimes), like story time, keep-the-ball-in-the-air (or “Keepy Uppy,” if you’re Bluey) and group dance. Airbnb partnered with BBC Studios, co-commissioner and global distributor of Bluey, on this one-of-a-kind experience. Bluey's home has been recreated in the real world and it's available for humans to spend a night. Cruise Ship Size Comparison, Dimensions

Juneau Takes Steps to Limit Cruise Ship Passengers

Of course, this ship is not what most people think of when they think of a cruise. Cruise ships come in all shapes and sizes, but you can expect them to be significantly large. There are many factors to consider when deciding which size ship to choose for your next vacation.

Beyond the biggest ships

MSC Meraviglia is the first ship in MSC's Meraviglia-class and received the "8 Golden Pearls" award, which recognizes sustainable and environmental stewardship. This meritable ship has 18 decks, 15 of which are accessible to guests, and 2,244 total staterooms. MSC Grandiosa is a part of the Meraviglia Plus-class, which currently has five sailing ships. Onboard, there are 18 decks (15 of which are passenger-accessible) and 2,405 staterooms onboard. AIDA Cruises AIDAnova is the first launched in the Excellence-class, which also has sister ship AIDAcosma.

Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas

On the ship, you’ll find 18 decks, 2,748 staterooms and more than 6,800 passengers when completely full. That’s definitely a lot of people, but remember that you also have a lot more space to spread out, giving plenty of elbow room. Small-mid ships sail a wide range of itineraries, and the more upscale ones will offer more fare inclusions (such as complimentary drinks, Wi-Fi or specialty dining). The ships have a more intimate, less anonymous ambiance and tend to cater to an older clientele.

These areas often include restaurants, theaters, lounges, and shopping promenades. The size and layout of these spaces vary depending on the ship’s design and target market. For instance, a family-friendly ship may have extensive children’s play areas and water parks, while a luxury ship may prioritize spacious, sophisticated dining venues. Consider that the Oasis of the Seas -- the first of the largest Oasis-class vessels built by Royal Caribbean -- was built in 2009, more than a decade ago. Since then, it's had several sister ships built, that have been marginally larger at most. The average cruise ship is 1000 feet long, but they can vary significantly in width and height.

Search Should Be Cruising

However, it's important to note that larger ships with more passengers may also mean longer lines and more crowded public spaces. The modern, oceangoing cruise ship has reached massive heights (and length and width and passenger capacity). Today’s cruise options span intimate expedition ships of a few dozen other passengers to behemoth floating resorts with neighborhoods that can accommodate thousands. And that’s not considering the many cruise ships that ply the world’s lakes and rivers. Until Utopia of the Seas launches in 2024, Sun Princess will be among the twenty largest cruise ships afloat on the world’s oceans. The ship’s first cruise is set for February 2024, and will debut Princess Cruises' largest number of dining options, offering guests 29 choices.

Early Development of Cruise Ships

This adds more weight, as does the addition of more swimming pools, hot tubs and other weighty facilities. The larger internal volume, or gross tonnage, means cruise ships can add more passengers, activities, amenities, and facilities to the vessel. For instance, while today’s largest cruise ship is only 20% longer than the Titanic.

Royal Caribbean Wonder of the Seas

These two ships come in at a tie for the eighth-largest cruise ship in the world. And if the shape of the ship looks familiar, that’s because Costa is a sister line to Carnival. A similar design is used for Carnival’s largest ships, Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee. However, those ships come in just under the 185,000 gross tons seen with Smeralda and Toscana.

Adults will love the 13 different dining options and an indoor promenade or Panorama Lounge for shopping, having a drink, or just relaxing. Small ships are the most nimble, so they can travel to remote areas (like the Arctic or South Pacific) or smaller ports in popular cruise regions like Europe and the Caribbean. Expect longer itineraries on average without a lot of homeporting and repeat ports. Because cabins are limited, these ships can sell out quickly, especially on sought-after sailings, so the best prices and perks packages are usually offered early. Once you come to small-mid ships, you're starting to look at more upscale -- and therefore expensive -- cruise ships. The largest ships are also limited in terms of which ports can accommodate their size.

And during the pause in cruising Carnival Corporation — parent of Carnival, Princess, and others — disposed of 19, older and less-efficient ships. In total, the company said these ships were 13% of capacity, but only 3% of operating income. Ships are measured by gross tonnage, which is a measure of internal volume. Entertainment abounds on this ship, from the splashy Aqua80 show in the AquaTheater to Music Hall, a live music venue with plenty of floor space for dancing. Or try one of the four onboard water slides including the ten-story-high Ultimate Abyss.

These ships typically have a passenger capacity of fewer than 500 guests. The passenger capacity of a cruise ship is another factor that plays a significant role in its size. Cruise ships can accommodate anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand passengers. The larger the ship, the more cabins and public spaces it has to accommodate the influx of passengers. With such a diverse range of ship sizes, cruise lines are able to cater to different preferences and budgets, from intimate boutique cruises to mega-ship experiences. The Sovereign-class ships were the first "megaships" to be built specifically for the mass cruising market.

With features like skydiving simulators, bumper cars, panoramic North Star capsules, and robotic bartenders, the Quantum-Ultra class elevates the cruise ship experience to new heights. Expedition ships are designed for travelers seeking adventurous and immersive experiences in remote and lesser-explored regions. These ships are smaller in size, allowing them to navigate narrow waterways and reach destinations that larger ships cannot access. Expedition cruises focus on exploration, offering in-depth excursions led by expert naturalists, scientists, and historians. Passengers can enjoy activities such as wildlife spotting, kayaking, and hiking in pristine wilderness areas, allowing for a truly immersive and educational experience. One of the most notable features of cruise ships is their diverse dining options.
